The Maytag MDB8859AWS model has 5 wash cycles but lacks the InstaWash cycle which is available in other higher end models. This is also one of the differences between the MDB8859AWS and MDB8959AWS model. The InstaWash cycle is for quickly washing pre-rinsed glasses and dishes in 30 minutes. This feature is useful if you have a lot of pre-rinsed lightly soiled glasses and dishes that only need to be washed quickly. It’s especially useful when there is a party going on in your house where large number of glasses and dishes need to be washed continuously.

In addition to the 5 wash cycles, there are 5 wash options that come equipped in the Maytag MDB8859AWS. The wash options such as steam clean and heat dry are available and the number of wash option is the same as the MDB8959AWS model. My opinion is that if you don’t need the InstaWash cycle, the Maytag MDB8859AWS unit is probably your best bet since it’s as good as other higher end model in terms of cleaning dirty dishes.

In terms of performance, the Maytag MDB8859AWS is extremely efficient in removing heavily soiled dishes and glassware. The combination of powerful jets, steam clean and flexible racks makes it one of the most powerful dishwashers. Moreover, it has a thermal-drying option that adds heat to the drying time and results in less water left behind. It features the SteamClean option, using high-heat steam and a high performance rinse to reduce spots on glassware.

Other standard features that are available in the Maytag MDB8859AWS unit are adjustable upper rack, convertible tines in the lower rack, 14 place settings, 2-4-6 hour delay start option and split & fit silverware basket. The adjustable fold flat tines in the upper rack are especially useful in fitting odd-shaped items as well as large bowls into the dishwasher.

One feature the MDB8859AWS unit is lacking is the Silverware Blast which is specifically designed to focus cleaning power on silverware. This can be a set back for the MDB8859AWS model if you have a lot of silverware to clean or they are mostly heavily soiled. This feature is available in the MDB8959AWS unit. The thing about the Silverware Blast is that the food particles and wastes that stick to silverware can be easily washed off without having to manually rinse them.

On the minus side, the only thing that I would complain about the Maytag MDB8859AWS is the lack of a built-in food disposal. This unit is lacking the food disposal which makes the removal of food waste and particle needs to be manually done before loading the dishes into the dishwasher. On the other hand, if this proves to be too much of a work for you, you can connect the dishwasher to an external food disposal.

All in all, the Maytag MDB8859AWS stainless steel dishwasher is an attractive dishwasher that is competitively priced as there are many extra features I haven’t found on more expensive models. The good performance coupled with the sleek design makes the Maytag MDB8859AWS one of my favorites.

You can even remove the top rack entirely for fitting over-sized bowl and pots.

The flatware caddy has a few improvements over the standard version; it has clips to hold lightweight items in place, and it can be split into two parts.

The estimated yearly electricity used is 291kWh which translates to about $31 per year at 10.65 cents per kWh. The latest SmartDispense Technology of the GE Profile PDWF480PSS stainless steel dishwasher certainly comes in handy as it can hold up to two months of liquid dishwasher detergent and automatically dispenses the right amount based on water hardness and soil levels to get dishes incredibly clean.

Because it has a built-in food disposal, you don’t really have to manually rinse the dishware before placing it into the dishwasher. And you will absolutely be pleased with the results — the food disposal is very effective. It prevents food particles from being re-deposited on dishware during the wash cycle.

Plus, it has an adjustable top rack and adjustable bottom rack to accommodate oversized or odd-shaped items. The “adjustable” feature comes into play when the rack tines are folded. The bottom rack in particular is quite versatile; all of the tines fold flat. Even the standard cutlery tray is adjustable and can be moved to various locations within the dishwasher’s interior.

For example, if you’ve filled the Bosch dishwasher with pots and pans, they are likely to require an additional rinse, and the sensor will automatically kick-in this secondary cycle.

With this much hot water, you might expect to get a face full of steam if you open the dishwasher before it has cooled. However, like most Bosch dishwashers, the Evolution has a system to drain this condensation so it doesn’t stay behind on clean dishware.

I especially like the Bosch’s special cycle that targets the top-rack only or bottom-rack only for a half-load wash. If you’ve ever tired of hand-scrubbing platters after a dinner party, you’ll like the Bosch Evolution. It has adjustable top and bottom racks with flip-down tines. Thus, the racks can handle odd-sized dishes, platters and baking sheets. Even when we’re not arranging large items in the racks, we’re pleased with them. The racks effortlessly hold a host of cereal bowls, dessert plates and glasses.

Other feature in the Bosch Evolution SHE43P15UC stainless steel dishwasher that is worth mentioning is the Extra Tall Item Sprinkler that makes hand washing large items becomes a thing of the past. You can simply remove the top rack and place your serving platters, baking trays, hood filters and refrigerator shelves that are up to 22″ high in the bottom rack for cleaning.

Although I am a big fan of the Bosch Evolution SHE43P15UC stainless steel dishwasher, it’s important to note that it does not have a built-in disposal to clear food particles. In addition to rinsing items before loading them into the dishwasher, homeowners should occasionally empty the dishwasher’s filter. This is true not only for the Bosch, but for any dishwasher without a disposal.

The overall reduced energy usage of this dishwasher doesn’t result in any sacrifice of features. The Bosch Evolution SHE43P15UC stainless steel dishwasher includes 4 wash cycles and two options that are more than enough for a small to medium size family. Its capacity accommodates as many as 14 place settings to accommodate even the largest dinner parties.

At an extremely competitive price, the Bosch Evolution SHE43P15UC stainless steel dishwasher is a solid performer with tones of water saving features and a large capacity that I really appreciate.
